Frequently Asked Questions
1. What are licenses and how do they affect my business?
Every creative work published verbally, written, via audio, Internet, or other mass media is protected by Copywright Law of the United States.
SESSAC, ASCAP and BMI protect the rights of composers and authors, meaning lyrics and music. To use a system non-authorized could infringe the laws supervised by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) and Better Business Bureau (BBB). Thus, your being licensed will help you avoid legal violations. Otherwise, you may receive fines of up to $5000.
The same applies to hold systems. You can't use the text or someone else's information, or your favorite artist's CD while your clients wait in line, be it on the phone or at your business. According to Copyright Law, this would constitute a crime, since the artist, producer or creator wouldn't be getting royalties for such use.
In order to broadcast a piece there must be a license: an agreement with the rights' owner. If it is an artist, one would need the permission of the author or the producer or recording house, etc.
At Spot on Hold, we posses the required licenses that will guarantee the system is legal. In addition, all our recordings are done by professional voice over artists, which avoids the legal exposure of unauthorized recordings.

2. What telephone system should I have in order to use your equipment?
Our equipment is compatible with any telephone system, independent line or switchboared, regardless of the phone provider. You will find more details in the "installation" section.
3. How do I know how many production changes I need annually?
It depends on the volume of calls you receive. The information you need to promote in a particular season and the reason why your clients might call you more often also influence this decision.
If you offer seasonal products you may need a recording per season. When you are preparing for an event or exposition, or any time you have to close your store due to vacations or remodeling, a message on hold will inform your clients about the situation.
4. What do I do if my equipment stops working?
Check the connection on your system using our "how to" video. Contact us via "chat" or call us at 1-888-728-2735.
5. What are the warranties of the equipments and services?
There is a three year manufacturer's warranty.
6. Will my hold message interfere with my voice message system?
No.
7. Will the USB equipment and adapters I order be mine?
Yes, you will own the equipment, adapters, parts and accessories that you receive in your order.
8. Could the message on hold interfere with my call waiting service?
Yes, the message on hold does not allow the call waiting to work. To avoid your clients thinking there's no one answering the phone in your business we recommend you eliminate the call waiting service.
9. Does the hold message player consume energy?
The equipment needs to be connected 24 hours. Though that may sound like a lot, the energy consumption is small.
